Bright Lights Belhaven Nights

This year I attended the yearly Bright Lights Belhaven Nights put on by the Greater Belhaven Foundation. This year there were nine artists spread across three stages in the neighborhood as well as various vendors. The turnout was HUGE despite the humid weather. I was equipped with a Canon 80d and a 50mm f1.8 instead of my trusty Nikon d750 (which can near shoot in complete darkness), but I was determined to take decent photographs anyway. Our arrival was later than anticipated, and although we got lost attempting to find to the house where our friends were at, I still managed to catch some cool photographs while on our little adventure.

Too much cuteness in one package!

Having seen the Southern Komfort Brass Band before I was only slightly bummed about not getting to see them perform. After FINALLY finding our friends house, the two friends I came with elected to stay at the party and Kat and myself made our way to the Carlisle Stage.

After arriving at the stage, Kat saw several people that she knew. While we talked to people, I took random shots of the crowd, but at the moment they weren’t going wild - they were waiting for a certain song to make an appearance.

Kat and I slowly made our way closer to the stage through the crowd. Once we got to a decent spot, Kat ran into another friend, and then it finally came on - “Hey, Jealousy.” The crowd went wild! While Kat was entranced in the music, I made my way closer to the stage - with only the 50mm, I could only zoom with my feet.

After the Gin Blossoms completed their set, we made our way back to the house to spend the rest of the night among friends (and food!) I’m fairly happy with the shots from the little crop sensor Canon but I look forward to Bright Lights Belhaven Nights next year when I can bring a camera with better low-light performance to capture crisper images.
